Is an unsolicited data offer a scam?

The existence of real licensing programs does not authenticate a particular sender. Verify the representative, legal entity and proposed process independently.

The short answer

The existence of real licensing programs does not authenticate a particular sender. Verify the representative, legal entity and proposed process independently.

Use the official route

Find the organization’s own website and contact method. Be wary of look-alike domains, urgency, requests for credentials and unexplained advance fees.

Request a concrete proposal

Ask for scope, use, recipients, payment conditions and sample handling. Pause if the sender cannot explain who contracts or requires broad access before any review.

What to record before deciding

Keep the written scope, official provider source, unresolved questions and the person responsible for each check. Treat a marketing claim as a claim until it is reflected in the agreement. A directory entry does not approve the transaction or establish your rights to share the records.

Your next step

See where your company’s data could fit.

  • Begin with a company description, not an export
  • Review systems, retained history and exclusions
  • Compare the terms before sharing records
